Unplugged in Paradise: My Week at Body Holiday St. Lucia

The Body Holiday is built on a simple but brilliant concept: unplug, move your body, and let your mind rest. Their motto is: “Give us your body for a week, and we’ll give you your mind back.”

At first, I wasn’t sure what to make of it. No TVs in the rooms? Not exactly my usual vacation style. Typically, I’m all about diving into new places, soaking up culture, and squeezing in as many experiences as possible. But after the hardest year of my life, “unplugging” felt like exactly what I needed.

And let me tell you—it was glorious. My biggest decisions of the day were:

  • Do I read my book at the beach or by the pool?
  • Should I schedule my inclusive massage before lunch… or after?
  • Which five-star restaurant should I eat at tonight?

That’s it. That was the hard work.

Before you ask—no, there were no fries, nachos, or cheeseburgers. I panicked at first too. But the food? Incredible. Fresh, flavorful, and guilt-free. Every meal felt like it was doing my body a favor instead of slowing me down.

I swore I wasn’t going to move a muscle all week. But curiosity got the best of me, and I ended up trying a few classes. The stretch class was gentle and grounding. I actually took it twice. Then there was the Beach Body Fit class… and wow. The instructor had so much energy that you couldn’t help but laugh, sweat, and push yourself (or should I say dance) to the beat of great music. Easily one of the best workouts I’ve ever had.

The views made every moment sweeter. Walking back from a massage and catching the ocean glistening through tropical flowers was unforgettable. Just watch your step—rumor has it there are only two snake-bite stations on the island. Another solid reason to lounge by the beach or pool, if you ask me.

One of my favorite things about traveling is finding a small way to bring the trip home. For St. Lucia, it was a flower. I picked one, dried it, and tucked it away to frame later—just like I’ve done with flowers from Ireland and Iceland. It’s a thrifty, personal way to carry a piece of a place with you, and each framed bloom comes with a story to tell when you entertain friends at your place.

Body Holiday wasn’t the vacation I expected, but it was the one I truly needed. A week of rest, movement, and nourishment for both body and mind. And honestly? I’d go back in a heartbeat and I would stay for at least two weeks.
